Completed Helmet Alert - Melita Curphy TK Demon Helmet

The devilish Melita Curphy has completed the TK Demon Helmet! Man this thing is scary........

The horns/teeth, etc are hand sculpted from epoxy clay. The helmet was painted with acrylic with several layers of wet/dry applications...no airbrushing. The forehead eye has been painted with flourescent orange and will glow in certain light. The mohawk is made from high quality National Fiber Technology hair that i hand dyed.

Completed Helmet Alert - Randy Martinez TK Laker's Helmet

Los Angeles Star Wars artist Randy Martinez is at it again! Not only has he created 13 pieces of promotional art for Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando Florida next month, he has done the unexpected. This popular artist has carried his true love for sports over into the science fiction genre. Demonstrating the love he has for his favorite basketball team, Randy Martinez has created a “Lakers Trooper” TK Helmet. When asked what inspired the idea, Randy said: “I am a huge Lakers fan, and the Lakers were right in the middle of playing for their 16th Championship against the Boston Celtics. I knew the Lakers were going to win the series, so I confidently started creating my salute to the Lakers defeat of the Celtics. I’m glad they won because I had already put 16 tally marks along the jaw representing each NBA Championship.”

Completed Helmet Alert - Noble Studios RED DOG-3

The RED DOG-3 Helmet was built by Noble Studio. It was a collaboration between Lawrence Noble and his long time Apprentice, Shane Curran. It is a debut work for Shane and Noble Studio couldn’t be prouder of his efforts.

      After discussions about basic concept and direction, as well as several trips to thrift stores, antique shops and the local hardware store, we had several meetings about what to use and how it should work. Shane produced concept sketches based on our talks. We reviewed the sketches, tightening up our ideas, and then proceeded to apply the pieces we found to the helmet. We wanted it to look like everything we added had a purpose, or reason for being. The dreadlocks at one time, were part of Shane’s hair. When he cut them off, he saved them, and I think we put them to good use! 

     As far as materials, we used a real variety. Leather, brass, plastic. copper and black walnut were predominate. Acrylic paint was applied to the basic form of the helmet, and found objects (boy, those were wonderful surprises!) made a huge difference. I think the addition of real human hair added another level and dimension.

    The entire process took about 60 man hours, including false turns and deliberation. We allowed the freedom to change our minds in deference to a more rewarding solution done differently than first imagined… I think that set up a scenario that allowed “Art” to unfold. All along the way, Shane displayed an open mind and determination that was rewarding to see and, I believe, we came up with a helmet and a backstory about the character Red Dog-3  that we can all be proud of!

Completed Helmet Alert - Star Wars In Concert Brasstrooper

Everyone knows what the Imperial March sounds like but no one seems to know where it comes from.Well, the answer can now be revealed.  The Brasstrooper. That music you hear is actually Darth's elite marching band that just happens to be slightly offscreen in all of the films. These commando band geeks are trained from birth to follow our favorite  Sith Lord everywhere he goes while belting out those famous notes. Able to perform in deep space or in the desert sun of Tatooine, the Brasstrooper is not to be trifled with.

In all seriousness, the Star Wars In Concert cast and crew is honored to partner with the 501st in this wonderful project. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a wonderful organization and we hope our contribution helps make a difference.

Completed Helmet Alert - TK RoSco

501st Member Scott Kirkham and Rob Coe have created the TK RoSco helmet...

TK RoSco is an exercise in leather and lights. What started out as a possible steampunk design morphed into something different as the project grew. Hand-stretched leather dome, hand-hammered brass face, rivets, leather scales, hand-formed screen vents and eyes and multiple LEDs kept it from fitting any sort of genre. With the Don't Shoot Me Lights on back (Acronym: DSML, pronounced DiSMaL) and lights from within and out, TK RoSco evokes barnstormers in their flying machines with their leather and brass helmets as well as warriors in high tech future times. I guess he might be called a Barnstormtrooper...

There are about 120-150 man hours, give or take, in the helmet. Leather, brass, batteries, rivets, fully wired and integrated LEDs of various shapes and sizes (with a switch inside the helmet), batteries, velcro, metal screen, brass aerators and brass mesh were all used.

New Artist Update - Well Kinda.....

501st Member Dean Plantamura has given his helmet to 501st Honorary Member Derek Lyons for buildup. Dean has a ton of projects on his plate and wanted to make sure the project moved forward.

Derek appeared twice in the great final scene of Episode IV. As Rebel Honour Guard he saluted Luke Skywalker and Han Solo as they entered the hall of the Massassi Temple and "swished“ to the other end of the hall in a wink of the eye in order to hand over the medals to Princess Leia for her to present to the approaching pair.

So it is with great pleasure I welcome Derek (even if he was a Rebel) to the TK project.

Completed Helmet Alert! Kevin Graham TK-Pod Helmet

Kevin Graham has completed his unique Pod Helmet.

Each rivet is hand drilled in and glued in on the inside of the helmet. The entire helmet is plated in real copper, then chemical patina added. Each ear vent has a surround sound speaker installed which is connected to an amplifier. You can plug an Ipod, Iphone, Computer or any other device that has a headphone type jack installed into the helmet. The back of the helmet has a 5 port usb hub installed which you can connect to any computer. You can charge your Iphone, Ipod, and use any other device in the hub.

Not only does it look cool, but it's useful!!!!
